The Oyo state government has taken over the ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo state.

 

It could be recalled that over the years, the joint ownership arrangement has been characterized by governance/ management challenges, affecting the appointment of Vice-Chancellor and other principal officer’s, as well as the irregular payment of staff salaries.

 

In September 2010, when it became obvious that the joint ownership of the institution was an issue, and in attempt to resolve these challenges and restore normalcy to enable the university focus on the achievement of its mission.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) constituted a Transmission Committee’s to oversee the affairs of the Institution for three months.

 

The NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, explained, while briefing journalist in Abuja, Friday that after extensive deliberations, negotiations, and consultations both owners states mutually agreed terms and the joint ownership of LAUCTECH was formally dissolved.

The mutually agreed dissolution was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of agreement by the Governors of Oyo and Osun states witnessed by the Attorneys-General of both states, giving legal effect to the transfer of ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to the Government of Oyo State and the College of Health Sciences, Osogbo to the Government of Osun states.

The NUC boss assured that the commission is available to support stakeholders to ensure the full and faithful implementation of terms and the agreement in all ramifications to ensure that varsity get back on track, in a harmonious milieu conducive to the discharge of its mandates of teaching and research.
