The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday warns Nigerians to be careful so that the country does not slide into a possible third wave of the coronavirus.

Italy, France and Germany are some of the nations presently experiencing the third wave of the virus, with Italy scheduled for a recent lockdown, whereby people will only be allowed to depart their homes for important errands. Most shops might be closed, together with bars and restaurants.

Italy had experienced 27,000 new cases and 380 deaths last Friday.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and PTF Chairman, Boss Mustapha, at the briefing in Abuja, mentioned that nobody may but heave a sigh of relief regardless of the availability of COVID-19 vaccines.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the virus could be very potent and other people nonetheless get infected. It is also a fact that the vaccination process has only just begun. It has been reported that some countries are recording a 3rd wave of cases.

“The PTF will like to warn Nigerians on home-based care as there might not be sufficient amenities and personnel to handle patients in times of emergencies,” Mustapha stated.

Meanwhile, Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, stated that, so far, there has been no official report of serious adverse results related to the AstraZeneca Vaccine among those that had received the vaccine.

“Mild side effects such as swelling on the site of the vaccination is predicted, as that is normal,” Shuaib explained.
