The Seventh Legislative Arm of Aniocha North Local Government has been inaugurated, with Hon. Okonkwo Nwike, Councillor Ward 16 Idumu-Ogo/Ugboba, elected as the Leader.
The inauguration of the Legislative Arm, on Monday, 15th March 2021, at Issele-Uku, the Council’s administrative headquarters, was a sequel to the reading of the letter of a proclamation from the Council Chairman, Hon. Kevin Okwechime, by the Clerk of the House, Mr Anamati Charles.
The Council Chairman, Hon. Kevin Okwechime, the Vice-Chairman, Hon. Princess Tina Amuamuziam, the Head of Personnel Management, Dr Mrs Patricia Dede and the treasurer to the Council Rev. Mrs Mureen Eboka, witnessed the inauguration of the seventh assembly of the legislative arm.
Hon. Jaunty Okwudi, Dr Michael Osuoza, Hon. Odinigwe Odigie and the State President of NULGE Delta State, Comrade Ziko Okwudi were also at the Aniocha North Legislative Chambers to observe the launch of the new Legislative Assembly.
Hon. Okonkwo Nwike’s election as the leader of the Legislative Arm was consequent upon his nomination by Hon. Ngbakwulu Patrick; Councillor Ward 14 Eze and seconded by Ndubuokwu Queen; Councillor Ward 3 Obomkpa.
He contested for the position with Hon. Emmanuel Ikenwa; Councillor Ward 18 Issele-Mkpitime who was nominated by Hon. Oweazim Emmanuel; Councillor Ward 17 Onicha-Olona, seconded by Hon. Abolo Nicholas Okemefunne; Councillor Ward 8 Issele-Uku.
With the casting of votes supervised by the Clerk of the Aniocha North Legislative Arm, Mr Anamati Charles, Hon. Okonkwo Nwike emerged as the leader having scored the highest votes.
Hon. Sije Nwabude; Councillor Ward 7 Issele-Uku, was also unanimously elected Deputy Leader of the Legislative Arm, sequel to his nomination by Hon. Atalor Kanajo; Councillor Ward 11 Ukwu-Nzu, seconded by Hon. Ifeanyi Anazia; Councillor Ward 8 Idumuje-Ugboko.
Other principal officers of the House, including the Majority Leader and the Deputy Majority Leader, were equally picked in line with the relevant rules of the House.
The highlight of the inauguration was the subscription to the relevant oaths by the Leader, the Deputy Leader and other members of the Legislative Arm.
Meanwhile, the Legislative Arm of Aniocha North Local Government has received a correspondence from the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon Kevin Okwechime seeking the confirmation of five nominees of the Chairman to be appointed supervisors/members of the Local Government Executive Council of Local Government.
The letter, with its subject head: “Confirmation of Appointment of Supervisors,” reads:
“I wish to refer to the above subject and to forward herewith the under-listed names appointed as supervisors/Members of the Executive Council of the Local Government.
- Hon. Eziunor Eric ward 3
- Hon. Chukwukwei C. Michael ward 10
- Hon. Patrick N. Onochie ward 14
- Mr Emmanuel Chiedu ward 8
- Jiweaha Onyeisi Augustine ward 17
“To this end, I seek confirmation of the appointment by the Legislative House pursuant to part v, paragraph 1 of the State Local Government Law 2021.
“As I count on your earliest Legislative action, accept the assurances of my esteemed regards, please,” the Executive Chairman stated in the letter.
The Correspondence which was read at plenary by the Leader was unanimously accepted as a working document of the House by the Councillors while the Leader directed the five nominees to submit 21 copies of their relevant credentials to the Clerk of the legislative Arm, on or before the end of Monday 15th March 2021.
The nominees have also been directed to appear before the House on Tuesday 16th March 2021 at 10am for screening.
