132 persons have been added to the list of those wanted by the federal government for violating the laid down COVID-19 guidelines.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha made the announcement on Thursday, May 27, a few days after 90 persons were also declared wanted for the same offense.

The offenders have been termed Persons of Interest (POI) on the account of posing a substantial risk to public health and for the breach of the Nigeria COVID-19 travel protocol by avoiding the compulsory 7day quarantine for persons entering from limited countries.

Talking about how the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 dispensed a Travel advisory for Passengers entering Nigeria from Brazil, India, and Turkey on May 1st, 2021,

The chairman noted that such preventive measures are essential steps to reduce the risk of bringing in other variants of the virus.

The Chairman further stated that under the new measures, those arriving from, or that have visited any of the above-mentioned countries within 14 days before a visit to Nigeria, are expected to follow compulsory quarantine and testing protocols in specified facilities On arrival.

The public is by this notice warned that these group of persons compose an immediate health risk to the society.

They must therefore convey themselves safely, to the nearest state public health divisions within 48hrs of this notice for immediate examination or call the Port Health Services, Federal Ministry of Health on 08036134672 or 08032461990 for further directions.

“The Presidential Steering Committee, in addition, shall undergo extra steps to sanction violators.

The steps include: Disabling their travel passports for not less than a year; Cancelation of visas or permits of foreigners that have taken advantage of Nigeria’s hospitality, and prosecution under the 2021 Health Protection Regulations.”
