The Youth Wing of Urhobo Progress Union Worldwide (UPU)  has urged Delta South, North Senatorial districts to stand behind the Delta Central Senatorial district during the  2023 state governorship election.

Mr. Duru Ufuoma, the union’s president, made the appeal at a press conference in Agbarho, Ughellli North Local Government Area of Delta, on Sunday, alongside members of the union’s National Executive Council.

The appeal, according to Ufuoma, was necessary to maintain the state’s current justice, fairness, and equity, which the governorship zoning structure had established.

He advised those surreptitiously forming a political alliance between Delta North and South to neutralize the Urhobos’ political force by 2023 to halt and embrace the existing zoning agreement principles.

Ufuoma recalled that a former Delta Governor, Chief James Ibori, had instituted a strategy of rotating the government among the state’s three senatorial zones.

According to him, the goal is to make room for minorities and allow all ethnic groups in the state to run for governor when their senatorial district turns.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in the three senatorial districts praised the initiative, he said.

“The UPU’s youth wing has been pulled to the Delta South’s persistent discordant songs, demanding ethnic zoning of the gubernatorial job come 2023.

“We would have disregarded the purposeful move, but if we do, we are undermining the unity, harmony, and equity that the PDP’s gentleman zoning arrangement has brought to the three senatorial districts,” he said.

“By 2023, a detribalized Delta Central individual will be the governor of the state, as it is Delta Central’s turn to produce the state’s next governor.

“We call on our Delta South comrades to discreetly forge a political alliance with the Delta North to neutralize the mentality.

The youth leader urged politicians of Urhobo descent working for senate candidates from other districts to reconsider and retrace their steps.

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta was congratulated by Ufuoma for keeping his campaign promises, noting that his developmental strides in the state have reawakened and renewed optimism among the state’s youths.
