John Mikel Obi, the former captain of the Super Eagles, has extended his contract with Stoke City in the Championship.
The club announced that they have signed an agreement with the former Chelsea midfielder to keep him for a year.
According to a statement on the club’s website, “contract extensions have been activated to retain the services of defender James Chester and midfielder John Obi Mikel.”
The 34-year-old, who joined the Potters last summer after leaving Trabzonspor of the Turkish Super Lig, is set to stay at the Bet 365 Stadium until the summer of 2022.
Mikel appeared 41 times for the Potters in the 2020/21 campaign and was one of the team’s most significant players.
