The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the acceptance of new passports from applicants which had been suspended due to backlog.

This was announced through a statement issued by the Oyo state command’s Controller-General, Safiya Mohammed, during a send-off organized for the outgoing Controller, Usman Muhammed yesterday, Tuesday, June 8.

Safiya noted that the new applications which commenced on Tuesday by 12 midnight are in line with the directive of the NIS’ Comptroller-General, Muhammad Babandede.

According to her, the NIS had suspended applications for a new passport in order to clear the backlog of passport applications that had been received yet were not cleared.

She also noted that one of the Controller-General’s priorities is the processing and immediate delivery of passports to applicants, to see to it that the backlog was cleared.

The command over the weekend worked overnight and was able to produce and clear out over 3,000 passports out of the backlog.

This development was to give room for new passport applications which started at about 12 midnight on Tuesday to be attended to.
