Reps Passes Bill For Establishment of Federal University of Technology, Asaba.

Hon. Elumelu, who represents the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, gave background information on the bill while proposing it on the House floor early last year.

Saying that the desire to establish the Federal University of Technology, Asaba, through legislation stems from the need to provide more opportunities and a level playing field for all to gain admission to Nigerian universities.

Elumelu went on to say that he drafted the bill with the goal of allowing the people of Delta State to tap into and resolve their technical disadvantages, which he said has persisted in that area of the country.

“This is a simple bill that proposes to create a University of Technology in Asaba and abolish paragraph (m) of the Federal College of Education Act’s first schedule. Cap.

With the passage of the bill which will soon be sent for Presidential assent, Asaba, the Delta State capital, will soon be the home for a Federal University of Technology, bringing to two, the number of Federal Universities in Delta State.

The Minority Leader stated, “F8, laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004, which established the college of education (Technical) Asaba, Delta State.”
