Former Super Eagles Captain John Mikel Obi has been selected by the Federal Government to serve as an ambassador to young Nigerians.
Another move of the Minister to promote bright young people to national development was the appointment at NOC Secretariat, Surulere Lagos, National Stadium on Friday.
The former Chelsea icon was described as a role model by the Minister of Youngsters and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, who has had a continuing beneficial influence on youth in the country as part of the occasion.
The Minister pledges to support Mikel’s vision and vision for sports development in the country and also guarantees the Stoke City center’s unalloyed support to the federal government when it chooses to invest in the country.
“The time won’t allow me to say a lot about Mikel’s footballing success. It is our mythology and our role model that has continued to have a good impact on the lives of young people.
“I am happy to appoint you as Ambassador of the Nigerian Youth. It is a new portfolio and Nigerians will be informed about your job as a young ambassador,” said the minister.
Mikel expressed his joy at his new role and promised to cooperate with the Sports Department.
