On Sunday, the Enugu State Police Command said it has apprehended an over-excited police officer who had reportedly murdered five persons while leaving four others gravely wounded.
It was gathered that on Sunday morning, the police inspector attached to Base 9, Umuahia, State of Abia, shot his victims at a lot office.
Five young men had been said to have fired by the police officer.
A statement by Commander Daniel Ndukwe called ‘The Golf Estate Enugu shooting incident: CP Aliyu is ordering comprehensive inquiry to disclose the circumstances of the occurrence, says,
“The Deputy Police Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Inquiry and Intelligence Department, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu.
Has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances of the shooting occurred in Enugu, Golf State area, around 9.30 am, today, 20 June 2011, involving a police inspector;
In order to conclude the inquiry, he was arrested and brought into custody.”
Ndukwe said the commissioner encouraged locals, deceased friends to be peaceful and help with the command in the ongoing inquiry.
In the meantime, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State visited the victims, where they had received treatment, at ESUT Teaching Hospital Parklane, in Enugu.
The Governor, Louis Amoke, Special Media Assistant to the Governor, stated in a statement that his administration would pay all of the medical costs.
