Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High court sitting in Ilorin the Kwara State capital has rejected the bail application of one of the suspects in the alleged rape and murder of Unilorin student Blessing Olajide and ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.
The eight suspects were arraigned on 11 count charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, rape, armed robbery, culpable homicide among others.
The issue of legal representation has however been resolved and the suspects are back to court
While three prime suspects are being charged for the rape and murder of the 24 years old deceased, Blessing Olajide, 5 others are to be prosecuted for aiding and abetting a crime.
They were accused of receiving one computer laptop and its accessories, phones, and other items stolen from the deceased resident.
They all pleaded not guilty to the offenses, although, counsel to the 7th defendant applied for his bail pending the hearing and determination of the case, the prosecutor opposed the application and the court also rejected it for lack of merit.
In line with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, the court directed a day-to-day hearing of the case to Fastrack the trial and ensure Justice for all.
However, the hearing continues tomorrow 7th of July 2021.
