Linda David, who is 24 years old, was found guilty of stealing pants on Thursday and received a sentence of two years in prison from the Magistrates Court in Kaduna.
After Linda pleaded guilty to the crime and pleaded for her life to Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, she was given the sentence she deserved.
However, he gave her the option of paying a fine of N40,000 and admonished her against continuing to live a life of crime.
According to him, the verdict would work as a deterrent to those individuals who could be tempted to participate in such illegal activities.
The defendant was charged with one count of stealing pants with a value of N115,000. This charge was a misdemeanor.
In an earlier hearing, the prosecution, Inspector Chidi Leo, informed the court that the offence was committed by Linda David on May 12 at Trinity Supermarket located along Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna.

According to Leo, the defendant went into the supermarket and took 20 pairs of underwear, 20 pieces of boxers, and 15 bras; the total value of the stolen items was N115,000.
According to him, the defendant was apprehended and turned over to the authorities by the security guard of the supermarket, who discovered that the suspect had concealed some of the stolen products beneath her clothing before making the arrest.
In addition, the prosecution stated that the offence was in violation of Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, which was updated in 2017.
