The Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the Federal Prosecutor General have claimed it is in favor of protecting the national interest to restrict Twitter’s activity in the country.

On Thursday 1 July Malami, who hosted the High Commissioner of Great Britain, Miss Catriona Laing, in his Abuja office, remarked that the interest of the nation prevails above all others.

The AGF also reviewed bilateral matters such as asset recuperation, the Anti-Corruption Crusade, the Electoral Act Amendment, the audit bill, the oil industry bill, the Twitter prohibition, and the fight against terrorism.

Malami is said to be quoted;

“If you want to operate as a business entity in Nigeria, you must do so within the context of Nigerian laws. Nothing offensive or that breaches the Nigerian laws should be entertained.”

After the corporation petitioned the government on the matter, the AGF said the Federal Government constituted a committee for a Twitter ban.

In addition, Minister Bills like the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) were being forwarded to the President to emphasize that appropriate procedure were taken.
