In order to move the All Progressives Congress (APC) forward in Kwara state, a faction loyal to Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, has warned the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led APC national reconciliation committee against engaging in any act of impartiality, injustice, or favoritism.

The APC’s Abdullahi-led national reconciliation committee paid a visit to Ilorin, the state capital, on Monday to mediate between the party’s warring factions.

Since the APC won the governorship election in the state in 2019, the party has been divided into two factions.

Mohammed leads one group, while Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the state governor, leads the other.

Each group has its own state secretariat, which is located throughout Ilorin.

The APC faction, however, said in a statement issued in Ilorin by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Hon. Sharafdeen Alli, that the chairman’s body language and conduct were inconsistent with the committee’s stated goal.

“I am in Kwara state to reconcile genuine aggrieved members of the party in the State,” Senator Adamu said during a courtesy visit to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on Monday, according to the APC faction. “We will not accept any action or utterances that can deepen division or trash the APC led administration in the state,” he added.

“Prejudicial remark from a man who is expected to be neutral in light of the volatile nature of his assignment,” the statement said of Adamu’s statement.

“We see his belligerent tone as a foreshadowing of what can be expected as a result of his contribution to the committee’s report.”

“It is our belief that anyone who uses reason to avoid history will end up repeating history,” the statement continued. We expect him to approach this task with caution and tact as a prudent statesman leading a reconciliatory committee of this nature, rather than resorting to emotions by referring to his primordial relationship with one of the parties to the dispute. This, we believe, is a clear case of a judge intervening in a dispute.

“With regard to Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s incorrect assumption that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq influenced the appointments of both Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Senator Gbemisola Saraki as Ministers of the Federal Republic, we wish to state unequivocally that the appointments were graciously made by Mr. President even against the Governor’s wishes.”

“The governor had no inkling,” the faction said, “and he made no contribution or exerted any influence on both appointments.” His top candidate, whose name he submitted for consideration, was turned down.

“Moreover, the governor attempted, but failed, to prevent the appointment of Hajiya Farida Dankaka as Chairman of the Federal Character Commission.

“It goes without saying that the parties were asked to make their presentations in writing prior to the Committee’s arrival in the state on January 10, 2022, which they did.”

“However, while we appreciate the committee’s intervention in finding lasting solutions to the lingering crises in the Kwara APC, we noticed the Chairman’s unpleasant body language and conduct were at odds with the committee’s stated objective,” the group added.
