Ayu Admits Collecting N100m From PDP Gov, Clarifies N1bn Allegation

Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has acknowledged to receiving N100 million from a governor.

Governor Nyesom Wike had previously leveled an accusation of corruption on the party’s national chairman, stating that in addition to the N100 million that was stolen from the governor, Ayu also received N1 billion from a presidential hopeful in Lagos.

After a meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) at the party headquarters in Abuja, Ayu responded to questions from journalists by stating that the problem of the N1 billion began when the party first came into government and required money to get the ball rolling immediately.

He stated that the party had planned on taking out a loan, but that plan was eventually scrapped. He went on to say that he did not get any compensation for his role as the National Chairman of the Party.

Ayu responded to the charge that 100 million Naira had been stolen by stating that the money had been obtained from a PDP governor and was being utilized wisely for the refurbishment of the People’s Democratic Institute (PDI), which will be commissioned in the coming days.

According to him, the money has not even been depleted, and a letter has already been sent to the governor asking him to come and investigate how the money has been used. (Excerpt from the Daily Trust)
