On Tuesday, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) filed a lawsuit in the Abuja-based National Industrial Court (NIC) seeking to compel the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government to end the current strike action.
After Umar Faruk Lawal, the President of the NANS group, withdrew his lawsuit, Justice Polycarp Hamman ended further proceedings in the case.
Lawal had informed the court that he had filed the lawsuit with the file number NICN/ABJ/273/2022 on behalf of NANS as well as himself.

Lawal informed the court that he had submitted a motion for discontinuance before the case was scheduled to be heard on Tuesday.
He said that NANS’s challenge to his standing and denial that he is the student body’s president, as he had testified to, was the reason he decided to drop the lawsuit.
Lawal’s request to have the lawsuit withdrawn was accepted by Marshal Abubakar, counsel for ASUU, notwithstanding the fact that the other two respondents were not represented.
As a result, Justice Hamman dismissed the case.
