Chelsea’s race for the Premier League top four – four games to go

The Premier League season has entered its final month with Chelsea in a strong position to finish in the top four, although there is still work to do. Here we analyse the permutations for Champions League qualification…

With four games to go, the Blues currently sit five points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham, and three points in front of Arsenal. Those two north London rivals play each other next midweek. All outcomes of that derby leave either challenger with a maximum of 72 points to play for, so the Blues realistically require two more victories to be certain of a top-four finish, owing to our vastly superior goal difference.

Manchester United cannot finish above Chelsea even if mathematically (but incredibly unlikely) they could leapfrog both Arsenal and Spurs.
