Delta: Government Clarified that Returned £4.2m is not in our coffers yet

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa

The Delta State Government stated on Wednesday that it has not received the 4.2 million pounds returned by the United Kingdom from the Federal Government.

Although the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, said the cash had been released to the state on Tuesday before the House of Representatives Committee on Recovered Assets in Abuja, the money had not arrived in the state’s accounts, it claimed.

In a statement issued in Asaba by Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the government stated that it was in contact with the Federal Government, particularly the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, on the matter.

It expressed gratitude for the Federal Government’s decision to release the monies to the Delta state and promised to recognize receipt of the monies when they arrived.

The government also promised the Federal Government and Deltans that the cash would be used wisely, as is the trademark of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration, particularly in the completion of projects it had previously informed the Presidency about it.
