Ebonyi: One police officer killed as unknown gunmen attack police station

Unknown gunmen assaulted Ohaukwu Police Headquarters at 135, At least one police officer was killed at Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu local government area, Ebonyi state at approximately 12 p.m. today, October 18.

Loveth Odah, the state police command’s spokeswoman, confirmed the incident and claimed the attackers also set fire to the station and burned cars there.

“At around 23 a.m., unidentified gunmen attacked the troops and officials on duty at Ohaukwu Divisional Headquarters, but they were repulsed.” One police officer, a Sergeant, paid the ultimate price in the process.

They detonated a petrol bomb inside the station, which regrettably resulted in one of the patrol cars and an exhibit truck being damaged.

The Commissioner of Police has paid a visit to the station to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. He has met with the leaders of the community.

This is the first time we’ve seen something like this, and nonstate actors such as vigilantes and security groups are assisting the police greatly. It’s a complete surprise to us; we weren’t expecting an attack,” Odah explained.
