Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea, has said he is left with a feeling of happiness as teammates and compatriot, Juan Mata leaves Old Trafford.
Mata departs Manchester United after eight-and-a-half years at the club and De Gea is sending him a moving and heartfelt message.
The midfielder’s contract at Manchester United has come to an end and the 34-year-old has decided to move on.
He could be returning to Spain likely, although his next move has not been confirmed.
“Thought this would be a very difficult one to express into words but when I thought about it more, the main feeling I am left with is happiness,” De Gea posted on social media.
“This guy has been a teammate, a friend and is my family.
“I love you my brother, I wish you everything and absolutely nothing but joy and success in your next stage of an unbelievable career,” he said.
Manchester United had a very poor and disappointing 2021-22 season and only managed to finish 6th in the Premier League.
The Red Devils finished Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal in a frustrating season that saw them sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and appoint Ralf Rangnick as an interim boss.
However, De Gea has been hailed by many pundits and supporters of the club as one of the best performers during the season as his saves prevented the Red Devils from further decline in the league.
