Aminu Bello Masari, governor of Katsina State, has requested the Federal Government to impose a state of emergency on the country’s security systems. Katsina is one of Northern Nigeria’s epicenters of banditry and abduction.

On Saturday, October 23, he spoke at the start of a meeting of the Conference of Speakers of the Legislature from the country’s 36 states.

Governor Masari stated that security services were trying their utmost to combat the widespread state of insecurity, but that the Federal Government should take additional measures to address the issue.

“The federal government should declare a national security state of emergency.” Security services are working hard to reduce instability in various sections of the three nations, but more has to be done to keep bandits and other criminal groups at bay across the country.
