The FCT School Sports Festival dry-run has been declared the overall winner by Government Secondary School (GSS) Karu. The school defeated 15 other schools by winning a total of 16 medals, including 10 gold, five silver, and one bronze, and was declared the winner in the senior secondary schools’ category.
JSS Gwarko triumphed in the junior secondary school’s division, winning four gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal to take first place in the medal standings.
JSS Jabi won the boys’ football competition after defeating JSS Orozo 2-0 in the championship game. In the girls’ football competition, GGSS Dutse triumphed over GSS Karu 5-4 on penalties.
Barrister Paul Edeh, president of the Ratels Sports Development Foundation (RSDF), said the FCT School Sports Festival will spur the development of sports facilities in all schools in the nation’s capital city in his remarks at the school sports dry run’s grand final.
Assuring the principals and participants that they are in for bigger surprises, he stated that the vision of RSDF in initiating the festival in partnership with the Federal Capital Administration (FCTA) is to ensure that there is improvement in both sports activities and facilities in the various schools within the FCT.

“I’m happy because for more than 40 years, I have prayed and desired to see young boys and girls in schools compete in both sporting events and non-sporting competitions like quizzes and debates.
“You are in for bigger surprises, that’s the assurance I want to give to the principals and schools taking part in the FCT School Sports Festival.
In the next five years, it is our hope and vision that this partnership will ensure that the sports programs and facilities at the various schools in the FCT are improved.
Every edition’s winner will take home a sizable cash prize, all of which will be used to upgrade the sports facilities at the various schools. For example, the winner of the basketball competition may take home no less than one million naira, which will be used to upgrade the school’s basketball facilities. The same is true for the winners of football, badminton, athletics, volleyball, handball, and other sporting competitions, according to Edeh.
The Ratel Sports Development Foundation will cover the next term’s tuition for the winners and runner-ups in the various school sports competitions leading up to the largest festival scheduled for September 2023. (RSDF).
