Passengers on a commercial bus traveling from Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, to Lagos were kidnapped on Tuesday in Isiala Mbano, Imo State, by unknown gunmen.
According to our source, the incident that occurred on Odo Rubber Road in Obiohuru, in the state’s Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, caused tension in the area.
The passengers were on their way to Government Akwa Ibom State in a bus when the gunmen attacked and took them away, leaving the vehicle and luggage behind.
“No one knows where they were taken to,” a community source told our correspondent. When the villagers saw the bus on Tuesday in the isolated Odo Rubber area, it was still steaming. The passengers’ phones and luggage were unharmed.”
According to our sources, the vehicle was pushed off the lonely road and handed over to the cops.
Dr Sharon Ohaka, the community’s President-General, told our correspondent on the phone on Wednesday that the youths had pushed the bus off the lonely road. He also revealed that the police had been invited by the community.
“The vehicle had been pushed out of the lonely road,” he explained. At Ishiebu, we’ve invited the police at the area command level as well as the divisional headquarters. They’ve taken control of the vehicle, as well as the passengers’ belongings and the investigation.
As of the time of filing this report, Micheal Abattam, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, had not responded to a text message sent to him by our correspondent.
