I Started Pidgin Rap In Nigeria – Erigga

Controversial Nigerian rapper, Erhiga Agarivbie, better known as Erigga, has claimed he was the first to do gangster pidgin rap in Nigeria.
The Warri-born hip-hop artist’s claim is coming on the heels of the heated arguments over who brought the raving South African music genre, Amopiano to Nigeria.
The argument started following the release of Wizkid’s first amapiano song, ‘Bad To Me’ on Wednesday.
Fans of Wizkid’s rival, Davido argued that he introduced amapiano to Nigeria, while online users from other fandoms attribute the credit to South African DJ, Maphorisa, Phyno, Lojay, and others.
Singer May D also claimed he brought the South African sound to Nigeria before anyone else.
Erigga gave the argument another dimension when he claimed he started gangster rap in Nigeria.
He wrote, “Na me bring gangster pidgin rap sha”.
His claim elicited mixed reactions as fans took to the comment section to remind him of veteran rappers like Mr Raw, Six Foot Plus, Mode9 and others who started rapping in pidgin before he started his music career.
