On Thursday, Olukayode Egbetokun, the acting Inspector-General of Police, gave his approval for the Force Intelligence Department, now known as the Force Intelligence Bureau, to be elevated within the Nigerian Police Force.
The police high command declared that this development will reinforce existing initiatives to strengthen and modernize the NPF’s intelligence capabilities with the goal of enhancing internal security measures to better address current issues.
The IG also gave their approval to Habu Sani’s appointment as the new head of the Force Intelligence Department. Sani is currently the Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
In a press release from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun stated: “DIG Habu Sani, a Geography graduate from Usman Danfodiyo University, was assigned as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992. He has taken a variety of specialized and strategic courses, such as Intermediate Command, Advanced Criminal Intelligence Analyst, Advanced Intelligence Processing, Technical Intelligence Management Methodology, False Document and Border Police Technique Courses.
“DIG Habu Sani has held a number of operational, investigative, and managerial positions with the Nigerian Police Force, including those of Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Technical Intelligence Unit, and Assistant Inspector General in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau. Up until his most recent promotion, he served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Force Secretary.
The IG concurrently gave its approval for the appointment of Assistant Commissioners of Police to lead State Intelligence Departments and Zonal Intelligence Departments across the country.
He stated that by giving ACPs the charge of leading SIDs, his administration hopes to provide the units with leadership that possesses a blend of operational expertise, strategic thought, and a strong dedication to upholding law and order.
He said that the action is anticipated to lead to better intelligence operations, more successful crime prevention, and an overall raising of law enforcement standards.
Similar to this, a group of academics from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, including the founder, Abdulraheem Oladimeji, the vice chancellor, Professor Noah Yusuf, and other representatives, recently paid the IG at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, a courtesy call.
They indicated a desire to collaborate with the Nigeria Police College of Intelligence, a center for education and study in fields relating to intelligence, in Kwara State, Adejobi continued. Additionally, they proposed to provide Senior Command Course participants at the Police Staff College, Jos, specific degree-granting courses.
“The IGP, while directing the DIG in charge of Training and Development to interface with them in order to develop a memorandum of understanding, expressed his determination for the college to immediately commence activities, with the goal of enhancing the NPF’s intelligence capacity and nurturing a new generation of intelligence professionals.”
