Imo Lawmaker Authur Egwim dies after surgery

Arthur Egwim, a lawmaker for Ideato North Constituency in the Imo state House of Assembly, has passed away.
Egwim passed away on Monday, according to a source familiar with the situation, just days after having surgery.
Emeka Nduka, speaker of the state House of Assembly, confirmed his death in a statement on Tuesday.
The late lawmaker was one of the Assembly’s brightest minds, according to Nduka.
The statement said: “With heavy hearts, but in complete submission to God’s will, we, the members of the Imo State House of Assembly, wish to announce the passing of one of our own, Rt. Hon. Barr Innocent Arthur Egwim, a notable and influential member of parliament who represented Ideato State Constituency until his death on Monday, the 27th of March 2023, following a brief illness.
“One of Imo House of Assembly’s finest and brightest minds has indeed been lost. His passing will leave a void in the House for a very long time.
“May God grant his wife and the rest of his family the strength to bear the irreparable loss, and may his gentle soul rest in peace. He will be sorely missed. The family will make the funeral arrangements in due time.

Egwim was chosen to serve in the state House of Assembly in 2015 under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and he was reelected in 2019 under the Action Alliance banner.
He presided over the House Committee on Finance and Public Accounts. Egwim served as the chairman of both the House Committee on Judiciary and the House Committee on Chieftaincy Affairs and Autonomous Communities.
The PDP’s Ugochinyere Imo defeated the All Progressives Grand Alliance’s (APGA) Arthur Egwim in the 2023 House of Representatives election for the Ideato North federal constituency.
