According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, all of its commands together secured a total of 3785 convictions in 2022.
According to a study of the anti-graft agency’s performance in the previous year, the statistic represents an improvement of 70.5% over the agency’s performance for the year 2021, which was exactly 2220.

Given that the commission only lost 41 cases during the period, or 1.07%, the statistic also implies a 98.93% success record in prosecution, according to the agency.
As in 2021, the agency’s Lagos Command recorded the most convictions (765), followed closely by the Ibadan command (573), the Port Harcourt zonal command (567), and the headquarters (314).

According to the release, the EFCC’s conviction rate in 2022 was the highest it has ever achieved, continuing an upward trend that started soon after Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s administration took office (retd.).
The Buhari administration was chosen in 2015 based on three promises: security, economic development, and combating corruption. 2015 saw a total of 103 convictions according to the EFCC. In 2016, the Buhari administration’s first full year in power, there were 195 convictions as a result.
“The number increased to 312 convictions in 2018, 1280 in 2019, decreased somewhat to 976 convictions in 2020, the year of COVID-19, and then increased to 2220 in 2021.
“Over 3574.8% of the EFCC convictions have increased in percentile over the seven years of the Buhari government, from 103 to 3785.”
Abdulrasheed Bawa, the executive chairman of the EFCC, commented on the performance and praised the staff for their commitment and tenacity despite the difficulties of criminal prosecution in court.
He gave the assurance that the EFCC would keep using capacity building and other incentives to encourage all employee types to work more effectively.
