In Nasarawa, police apprehend 26 suspected kidnappers, gunrunners, recover 497 ammunition

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 26 people for various crimes across the state.

Ramhan Nansel, the State Police Public Relations Officer, announced this during a press conference at the command’s headquarters on Wednesday.

According to the PPRO, one recent accomplishment was the arrest of ten suspected kidnappers on May 23 as a result of credible intelligence provided to a team of Mobile Policemen attached to Operation Restore Peace.

Officers stormed the kidnappers’ hideout in Ambaka village, Farin Ruwa Development Area, Wamba LGA, and made the arrests.

During the operation, he said, two kidnap victims were rescued.

Some of the kidnappers arrested include Sale Adamu, 34, Idi Halilu, 27, Abdul Sale, 20, Mallam Gambo, 48, and Goma Halilu, both from Ambaka village.

On May 15, operatives from the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit arrested two suspected gunrunners, according to the PPRO.

“The duo of Gabriel Sati ‘M’ 41yrs of Dokan Kasuwa Village, Quan’pan LGA, Plateau State and Omage Iliya ‘M’ 27yrs of Kofan Liman, Assakio conspired among themselves and went to Assakio to buy three (3) AK47 riffles for one million, one hundred thousand naira each.”

“During questioning, the suspects admitted that they were hired by one Omage Obenu ‘M’ of Assakio to source the weapons, and that they negotiated with the seller before nemesis caught up with them at the point where they planned to meet and seal the deal.” The suspects have provided useful information, and the investigation is ongoing,” he added.
