Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, said on Friday that Nigerians should not blame the current insecurity in the country on the APC-led government.

The former Governor of Rivers State insisted that it was a misnomer to say that banditry was caused by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) when, in fact, “past leaders should be kept accountable for mismanaging the country’s resources.”

Amaechi spoke in Jos on Friday during the commissioning of the Nigerian Shippers Council’s North Central Coordinating Office complex and a visual overview of the new Maritime Resource Centre in Platea.

“Crime exists since the Nigerian economy was mismanaged for years by the wealthy men who ran it. I’m not sure why Nigerians believe we were the first to enter government.

“There had been previous governments before us. We wouldn’t be worrying about insecurity and banditry today if they had managed the economy in a way that generated employment.

“We are where we are because of mismanagement of the resources that belong to both of us. So, the project we’re commissioning today is the product of the commonwealth’s management, which belongs to both of us, and I’m thrilled that I gave the organization permission to do this project here.”

Governor Simon Lalong thanked the federal government for mentioning Plateau State’s programs.

He expressed confidence that the establishment of the North Central Coordinating Office in Jos, which includes a 4-star hotel with 150 rooms, mixed shopping malls, gaming arcades, food courts.

A five-a-side football pitch, basketball and tennis courts, ATM Galleries, swimming pools, and a water park, among other amenities, would add a lot of value to the overall plan for the development of inland container terminals across the country.
