A protest against the annulment of the primaries that resulted in Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani’s selection as the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for governor in the general election of 2023 was organized on Wednesday by a number of women in Adamawa State.
A Federal High Court judge in Yola granted an injunction ordering Binani to stop appearing as the APC candidate in Adamawa on Friday.
Recall that Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the first Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had filed a case against Binani about charges of vote buying and overvoting while he was a candidate for governor of the APC in Adamawa.
Women from all 21 of the state’s local government districts took part in a march through the streets in protest of the court’s ruling, claiming that it was nothing more than a massive scheme against women.

“The plan against women has gone too far,” “It’s Binani we want,” and “No Binani, no election” were among the placards that the women carried.
The organizer of the protest, the Honorable Comfort Ezra, urged all women to demonstrate their support for Binani because she is the only candidate running for governor of the country.
“We invited you to join us today to vigorously combat the marginalization of women in politics, particularly by political parties that frequently obstruct women’s candidacies during their primary elections. Instead of contributing to the problem, we want you to be a part of the solution.
“The recent Federal High Court ruling, which denied to sustain the election of Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani of the APC as Nigeria’s sole female gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general election, is a wake-up call for all women in Nigeria, not just those who live in Adamawa State. To make sure that she doesn’t lose her mandate on the basis of any technicality, we are making an appeal to all of the women in the nation. She said what she did.
Hon. Ezra claims that Binani earned 430 votes, which was sufficient to defeat the five male opponents and get the nomination.
