Jorginho on his regret at West Ham miss, pressure penalties and what can affect a spot-kick taker

While Jorginho’s missed penalty against West Ham ultimately proved inconsequential for the Blues, the midfielder has been reflecting on his disappointment at the saved spot-kick and the external factors that affect a taker in those crucial moments before the run-up…

Christian Pulisic’s last-minute finish meant the Blues salvaged all three points in a tense London derby. Moments earlier, Lukasz Fabianski had thwarted the Italy international from 12 yards after Romelu Lukaku had been pulled back in the box.

It was the 35th spot-kick taken by Jorginho in a Chelsea shirt (including shoot-outs) and just the fifth miss during that time, though such an impressive record mattered little to the 30-year-old in the aftermath of Sunday’s 1-0 win.

‘When you have that little moment of doubt, that’s usually when you make the mistake,’ he said.

‘Maybe I had too much time to think about it, I don’t know. It went like that this time and I’m sorry

‘I feel bad because it’s not a nice feeling.’
