Former Super Eagles striker Jude Odion Ighalo has been named an Ambassador of the National Principal’s Cup by the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.

According to reports when Ighalo paid him a visit at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, informed him of this.

The Minister praised Ighalo for giving his best for the Super Eagles, emphasizing that the former Manchester United striker’s achievements were a source of national pride.

“It warms our hearts here at the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development

.You’ve stood tall amongst some of the world’s best players; I hope that more great internationals, not just football stars, will follow in your footsteps by identifying with us on how to move forward.

“Your resume and on-field achievements speak for themselves, and I believe the pinnacle of your career was the daring decision you made to join Manchester United. I’m even more ecstatic that you choose to play for the Undead 23 and the Super Eagles.

It’s worth noting that the Principal’s Cup, which had been dormant for 25 years, was just resurrected. In April, the 2021 edition came to a close, with roughly 250 schools taking part.

“This year’s version is a trial run to gradually bring It back. We now have a National Principal’s Cup in addition to a Principal’s Cup. In the second edition, we’ll be looking at 2,500 secondary sources said.

“It’s worth noting that Principal’s Cup was once the engine that supplied the majority of our top players, and it speaks to the core of Grassroot Sports Development.

To bring it to life, we chose Daniel Amokachi, Joseph Dosu, Mary Onyali, and Tajudeen Disu as Flagship Ambassadors of the Principal’s Cup. You’ve also been named as a National Principal’s Cup Ambassador to inspire our youths.
