‘LP Governorship Candidate Akinwale Reveals Tinubu’s Contribution to Peter Obi’s Campaign’
Tawfiq Akinwale, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, claimed on radio that President-elect Bola Tinubu urged Professor Pat Utomi to step down in favour of Peter Obi before the 2023 general elections.
This allegation was made during Akinwale’s appearance on the radio station 101.7 YES FM in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Akinwale, who spoke in Yoruba, claimed that Obi received campaign contributions from Utomi, whom he described as Tinubu’s “protege.”
“In the run-up to the 2023 elections, Obi, who had purchased the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nomination form, abruptly announced his exit from the party,” he said.
“Initially, Pat Utomi had secured the LP’s presidential ticket, but when Peter Obi said he resigned from the PDP and joined the LP, Pat Utomi resigned from the PDP and joined the LP.” Bola Tinubu, a master political strategist, quickly informed Utomi that everyone knows it is his son’s responsibility to step down for Obi.
“The “president-elect” saw in Obi’s presidential bid a good opportunity to reduce the chances of the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, winning.”

“What Peter Obi didn’t know is that he began collecting campaign funds from Utomi while Tinubu was giving the money to Utomi.”
“This continued until Obi’s presidential campaign surpassed the target.” Obi was exploited without his knowledge.”
Prior to these events, Obi had purchased the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination form for the 2023 elections.
However, he abruptly announced his departure from the party, precipitating the events described by Akinwale.
The Labour Party candidate went on to say that Tinubu, a well-known political strategist, advised Utomi to step aside for Obi.
Akinwale suspects Tinubu saw Obi’s presidential candidature as an opportunity to undermine the chances of the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Obi joined the Labour Party after resigning from the PDP and withdrawing from the presidential race.
As a result, he ran for the party’s presidential nomination. Pat Utomi gave way in June 2022 to Obi, who became the Labour Party’s uncontested presidential candidate at a meeting in Asaba, Delta State.
