VISIT A SPECIALIST

Every Local Government Area has specialist departments that may provide you with private advice and assistance. These experts are bound by confidentiality and will not act without your permission. The addresses of these expert offices in your region may be found online. Several local authors also provide confidential advise about sexual harassment in the area. Consult the secretariat of your Local Government.

TALK TO YOUR PARENTS

Your parents have a responsibility to protect you from sexual harassment. Your parents or an old person nearby, in contrast to individuals of trust, can ensure secrecy. If your parents or senior relatives are aware of a situation, they must take action.
If you want to talk about the matter privately initially, call a family member you trust or an outside help center.

CONTACT SOMEONE YOU TRUST

For issues about sexual harassment, several communities have contact persons or individuals of trust. You can contact people in your neighborhood who can help you. Confidentiality applies to contact people and trusted people. They highlight what you are capable of doing and encourage you to do so. If you accept, the contact or confidant will take action.

ADDRESS DIRECTLY

Make it obvious to the harasser that his or her behavior is unacceptable. Identify the undesirable habit. For instance: “This is not something I desire. I want you to respect it in the future and refrain from touching.” You can even contact the harasser later: “You approached me from behind ended up putting your right hand over my neck.” That is something I do not desire. That is something I want you to respect, and it will not happen again.”

DOCUMENT WHAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED

Make a note of what happened: What happened when and where? What was stated or done by whom? Who else was present and witnessed it? What did you say or do in response to this? A record like this is crucial. It helps you remember what occurred afterward. This is crucial if you wish to pursue legal action against someone who has assaulted you.

WRITE A LETTER

Send the harasser a letter. Describe what happened and state that this behavior will not be tolerated in the future. Request that the person respects this and desist from the disruptive conduct in the letter. Keep a copy of the letter for yourself.
