Nigerian military rescues 2,000 cattle in Niger after fierce gun battle with bandits
Following a bloody gun battle with armed bandits in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, Nigerian military personnel have intercepted over 2,000 cows, according to PRNigeria.
Before being stopped, a convoy of about 100 motorcycles led by over 500 bandits from the Birnin-Gwari axis in Kaduna State raided several Mariga communities.
Using dangerous firearms, the terrorists had been operating ‘freely’ in several communities, razing places of worship, robbing homes, killing men, kidnapping women, and rustling cattle before security agencies were notified, according to a local community leader named Adamu Warari, who spoke to PRNigeria.
The bandits crossed the Birnin-Gwari crossing at Mariga, Kasuwan Garba, a portion of Kontagora, and Kwimo before continuing to steal hundreds of cattle until they were stopped by Bangi troops at Kwimo, according to Adamu Warari.

A defense intelligence source confirmed the development by telling PRNigeria that the military’s air task force and ground forces intercepted the terrorists and cattle in the Bangi axis before they could be moved to a forest in Birnin-Gwari.
“After receiving information about the bandits’ movements with the rustled cows, the Nigerian Airforce and ground troops from the Nigerian Army stationed in Bangi but in Warari were both mobilized.
“While the ground troops shelled the terrorists from advantageous positions, the NAF jet bombed their escape routes leading to their hideouts. Several of the bandits were killed, but two brave soldiers were hurt, and they are now recovering at a hospital, the defense source added.
