Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the wife of Nigeria’s President, has praised military wives for assisting their husbands in carrying out their constitutional roles for national development.
Mrs. Buhari described them as stabilisers and developers.
She made the remarks at the public presentation and formal launch of the book, The Journey of a Military Wife, written by the President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, DEPOWA, Barr. Victoria Irabor, in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
According to her, despite the fact that military wives face many challenges at home, many of which are traumatic, they are still hardworking.
According to Mrs. Buhari, “the experiences gathered will serve as guidelines and provide the necessary information, hence the significance or relevance of women in society.”
“The need to grow stronger families in the community in light of the extraordinary challenges being faced by officers and soldiers on the frontlines of national security,” she said.
According to the First Lady, “she believed that this book did justice to several issues confronting wives of military officers.”
She thus recommended the book as a reference guide for military families for all Nigerians seeking information on the role and impact of military wives in military safety and security.
She urged the Nigerian government to consider addressing some of the issues raised in the book, such as the Centre for Officers and Soldiers, which provides support to officers and their families, particularly those on the front lines.

According to her, there is a need in Nigeria for Economic Empowerment opportunities for military spouses in both the public and private sectors.
The President’s wife acknowledged and appreciated the tragic sacrifice of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel.
The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, stated that despite the experiences they have shared, hope is brought to consciousness of what the house is capable of.
The Defence Chief took the opportunity to thank his wife for putting together her forms and all the decorations.
Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, stated that the book would undoubtedly add to the already existing literature for families on how to overcome riddles or challenges associated with career and family.
General Yahaya emphasised the carrier of military personnel, as well as the great experience bringing inherent to the military community, which includes the Special Guest of Honour.
According to him, unsung heroes who have supported the Armed Forces are sometimes brought in to disarm.
“This is the right time for men and women in the military to succeed in all aspects of life.” This will go a long way towards appreciating those who have remained the backbone of the families but have not received the recognition they deserve,” he said.
On behalf of the Service Chiefs, he was represented by Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff.
Mariam Abacha, former President of DEPOWA, narrated her own experiences in a goodwill message, saying “they were together when the war started and what they went through during the Civil War.”
Senator Dqisy Danjuma, the Chairperson of the Occasion, stated that she has known Mrs. Abacha for over 50 years and that most of her friends were late, so she narrated her own experiences as the wife of a retired officer.
Some of her experiences were happy, while others were very traumatic, according to her.
“Happy moments when their husbands are promoted, they all celebrate,” she said, “and traumatic when one dies.”
Many dignitaries attended the event, including officers and wives from various associations.
