Nigerien Arrested for Wearing Military Camouflage Uniforms, Impounding Goods Worth N628m
The Nigerian Customs Service’s Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘B’ reported that between March and April 2023, it arrested a used Volkswagen Golf driven by a Nigerian citizen along Jibia-Katsina Road.
During the operation, the patrol officers noticed and identified a sack in the vehicle, which was later opened and revealed a variety of Military camouflaged shirts, trousers, and T-shirts.
“Further examination and questioning revealed that the driver was a Nigerien citizen, and the suspected uniforms were to be delivered to an unknown person in Katsina.” The uniforms included 22 pairs of Foreign Tactical Military camouflage shirts and trousers, as well as 25 military camouflage T-shirts.”
The seized items (Foreign Tactical Camouflage Clothing) and suspect were handed over to the Directorate of Security Services (DSS) in accordance with the collaborations between the two Agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution, according to the comptroller.
“In addition, our sharp-eyed officers seized 140 Jerry cans (25 litres each) of Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) with a DPV of N2.74 million.”
“The Unit also intercepted 1,147 Jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (25 litres each) worth N2.16 million.”
“In accordance with the existing laws and guidelines as directed by Customs Headquarters, the seized PMS and Diesel were auctioned and the proceeds remitted to the federal government’s coffers.”
Other items seized during the review period include 37 used vehicles, 5 vehicles (Means of conveyance), 2,109 bags of Foreign Parboiled rice (50kg each) and 69 bags of Foreign Parboiled rice (25 KG each), 8 Jerrycans of Foreign Refined Vegetable Oil (25 Litres each), and 1,241 cartons of Foreign Spaghetti and Macaroni.

39 bales of Foreign Secondhand Clothing, 30 sacks of Foreign Secondhand Shoes, 14 cartons of Foreign Fruit Juice, 21 cartons of Foreign Pomade, 80 pieces of Foreign Car Batteries, and 1 carton of Foreign Milk are also included.
“In accordance with the cordial relationship between the Nigeria Customs Service and the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the 46 sacks of marijuana, as well as means of conveyance, will be handed over to the Commandant NDLEA Kaduna State Command for further action.”
The comptroller also informed you that the comptroller general of Customs, Colonel Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) CFR and his management team recognized their renewed effort by awarding the Unit a Letter of Commendation, which he stated would go a long way in boosting the morale of the Officers and Men of the Unit.
He reaffirmed his commitment to enforcing Federal Government fiscal policies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), stating that our operatives are battle-ready to carry out our mandate effectively.
He pleaded with host communities along the border to continue providing us with useful information that will help our operatives impound prohibited goods in the national interest.
