Police operatives in Ogun State have arrested 35-year-old Obinna Kalu for allegedly shooting his co-tenant Adijat Balogun.
The suspect was arrested following a report made at Sabo/Ilupeju divisional headquarters by one Olayiwola Kareem.
The complainant reported that while the victim was sleeping in her room on March 14, 2021, the suspect who has been at loggerhead with the victim sneaked into her room and shot her on the right rib.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Thursday, said following receipt of the report, the DPO Sabo/Ilupeju division, Mustapha Opawoye, quickly led his men to the scene.
Oyeyemi said the group rescued the victim who was taken to State Hospital Ijaye and later referred to the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta for medical attention.
He stated the suspect instantly packed his loads and disappeared into thin air.
“Having carried out the dastardly act, the suspect rapidly went into his apartment, packed his belongings and ran away. A large manhunt was launched for him, and with the cooperation of members of the general public, he was finally arrested on the sixteenth of March 2021.”
According to him, the suspect initially denied shooting the victim, but when he has requested the rationale behind his sudden relocation from the home, he was unable to argue further.
He stated the victim is presently recuperating at the Federal Medical Center Abeokuta.
Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the case to the homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
