The Wadata neighborhood near Makurdi town’s Police Barracks is where the allegedly decaying naira notes were found in a shop, according to a video spreading on social media. The Benue State Police Command has disproved this claim.
Mostly in the aforementioned video, some Wadata people can be seen removing sacks of what appear to be decaying papers from a business while saying it is cash that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, has uncovered.
However, the Command labeled the video as “misinformation” in a statement released in Makurdi by its public relations officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene.

But it vowed to look into the situation carefully.
On December 13, 2022, at around noon, a police division in Makurdi received intelligence that hidden Naira notes had been discovered at the police barracks in Wadata.
Police investigators who were dispatched to the area to conduct an inquiry found trashed documents in a store not far from the Wadata Police Barracks in Makurdi.
“The store’s proprietor, Mr. Isah Suleiman, was contacted for an interview and produced a waste management license that had been granted to him by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
“He also stated that CBN is often where these waste papers are obtained and converted into insect repellents. CBN has been contacted for confirmation of the probe.
