The Spanish La Liga is at its most crucial point, and one of the league’s heavyweights, Real Madrid, has been making the title race for their arc-rivals, FC Barcelona, relatively simple.
On Tuesday, the reigning La Liga and Champions League champions Real Madrid were humiliated 4-2 by Girona’s Valentin Castellanos, who scored four goals in the process.
With their shocking loss at the Montilivi Stadium, Real Madrid now has six losses in their first 31 La Liga games of the current campaign. They have only managed 20 victories and five draws, totaling just 65 points.
Madrid, led by coach Carlo Ancelotti, is 11 points behind FC Barcelona in first place, who still have a game in hand, with just seven league games remaining.

Coach Xavi’s team will open a huge 15 point gap above Madrid if Barca defeats Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio de Vallecas by 9 PM tonight. This gap may not be closed in the remaining 7 league games.
Note that Barcelona has defeated Madrid three times in their last four meetings in all competitions so far in the 2022–2023 season, proving just how unbeatable Xavi’s squad has been in the league.
While Real Madrid appears unbeatable in the Champions League this season, Barcelona has been a force in La Liga, winning 24 games, drawing four, and losing just two of their 30 league contests.
All things being equal, Real Madrid may not win a trophy this year if they lose to Manchester City in the Champions League semifinals.
In terms of the 2022–2023 season, FC Barcelona appears to have already signed, sealed, and delivered the Spanish La Liga championship.
