Between July 2021 and June 2022, 42,954 Tanzanian schoolgirls discontinued their studies due to pregnancy. This is supported by the most recent report from Tanzania’s Controller and Auditor General (CAG), which was made public on Monday.
According to the 2021 to 2022 CAG report, out of the 42,954 schoolgirls who became pregnant, 23,009 were from secondary schools and 19,945 were from primary schools.
According to the report, out of 82,236 secondary schoolgirls who were expected to finish their regular education in 2021, 28 percent were pregnant.
According to the report, the pregnant schoolgirls came from 19 local government agencies.
The report states that the secondary schools in the Dar es Salaam region’s Kinondoni municipality had the most teenage girls who were pregnant (4,652), followed by the Mtwara region’s Newala district council (3,783) and the Mwanza region’s Misungwi district council (2,570).

According to the report, Uvinza district council in the Kigoma region had the second-highest number of schoolgirls who were pregnant during the review period, with 2,172, followed by Kwimba district council in the Mwanza region with 9,045 girls.
