Seven women traveling to church event burnt to death on Sagamu-Benin road

On Wednesday, a Mazda bus caught fire at Odogbolu on the Sagamu-Benin road, killing seven passengers by burns.

The incident was confirmed by Babatunde Akinbiyi, Public Relations Officer for Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).

Seven other people were hurt in the accident that happened around 2.50 p.m., he informed reporters in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

According to the spokesperson, an engine overflow caused the commercial bus, with the license plate AGL 886 YD, to catch fire.

Akinbiyi reported that the single deadly crash resulted in seven female fatalities and seven injuries.

The car was traveling from the Lagos neighborhood of Kosofe toward Epe in preparation for a church revival to ring in the new year.
“There were 15 people on board the bus; seven of the women died from burn injuries, and seven more were burned. The bus driver escaped, Akinbiyi continued.

The injured people were sent immediately to Ijebu Ode General Hospital for treatment, according to a TRACE spokesperson.
