Suspected cultists murder tricycle driver in Awka

A tricycle driver was shot and killed on Tuesday by individuals with guns who were thought to be members of a cult just outside the back gate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka.

It was said that the incident took place in the evening.

In the state, there have been deaths that have been linked to rivalry between different cult organizations. Many individuals have condemned the recent violence and bloodshed in the state as a result of this.

Speaking about the murder of the tricyclist, an eyewitness from Nnamdi Azikiwe University who wished to remain unnamed said: “Residents and students are currently living in fear as relentless murdering and gunfire has started again in Awka and surroundings.

“There have been reports of young people being shot dead for the previous two or three days, and the most recent one occurred today (Tuesday) near the Unizik school entrance in Ifite Awka.”

The incident has been confirmed by the state’s police authorities, who claim it has a cult connection. DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the state police command, told our correspondent that its agents had increased surveillance in the city, particularly in the Ifite neighborhood near to Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

He declared: “Our agents have been sent to the area, and the situation is being constantly watched. According to early understanding, a conflict between two rival cults is what led to the shooting.

“Police patrols in Awka and other parts of the state have been stepped up.”
