Plaque worth $10,000 stolen from Melbourne war memorial

Police were told the plaque was last seen on the cenotaph at St James Park on Burwood Road, Hawthorn, at about 10am yesterday.

The plaque is valued at approximately $10,000 and has the inscription, “Erected by the citizens of Hawthorn and dedicated to the memory of their fellow citizens who fought in the great war.”

Investigators have released images of plaque in the hope that someone with information will come forward.
