A boat carrying more than 100 women and children broke apart on a river in Kebbi State on Wednesday, according to a local official. Ten bodies were found there.
The boat, which was transporting people from a farm back to the River Niger, broke in half as it got close to Samanaji village in the Koko-Besse district.
According to Yahaya Bello Koko, the district’s political administrator, it had been crowded with passengers “beyond its capacity.”
According to Koko, “We have recovered 10 passengers with the assistance of local divers while searches for 10 other passengers are still ongoing.”

Given the length of time the 10 missing persons spent in the river, it is assumed that they drowned.
He added that more than 80 passengers had been saved.
Emergency officials from the federal and state levels could not be reached for comment on the incident right away.
On Nigerian waterways, capsizing is a frequent occurrence because of frequent overloading and poor maintenance.
According to Kebbi state officials, in May 2021, about 100 traders perished when their boat ruptured from overloading and sank in the same river.;
