A two day training on drug prevention, treatment and care organized by the National drug law enforcement agency has come to a close with a resolution to tackle drug abuse from the grassroots.

Participants at the training session led by assistant director, drug demand reduction unit at the NDLEA Fatimah Popoola while expressing concern over increased number of drug abuse cases resolved to partner local government chairmen and youths at the grassroots to raise awareness on the dangers of illicit drugs.
14.4 percent of Nigerians according to a drug survey report of 2018 and prepared by the United nations office on drugs and crimes are found to have abused drug use between 2016-2017, a development the NDLEA says can effectively be tackled at the grassroots.

On his part, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Kwara State (ALGON) Jide Asonibare said the advocacy to combat drug abuse would be taken to the grassroots by his member
The NDLEA also used the training capacity session to state the need for policy makers to be comprehensively informed on the dangers of drug abuse and the growing trend of the menace with a view to building policy tools that can adequately address the challenges of drug abuse particularly among youths at the grassroots.
