Farouk Yahaya refutes rumors of Mass Retirement In Military

Chief of Army Staff's

The Nigerian Army’s Defence Headquarters said on Thursday that no mass retirements were planned as a result of the new Chief of Army Staff’s appointment.
The incoming COAS is from Course 37, which has fuelled suspicion that senior commanders may be forced to retire.

Benard Onyeuko, the interim Director, Defence Media Operations, addressed media at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja and refuted such allegations.

He emphasized that no retirements have been granted at this time and that senior officers in the Armed Forces can retire at any time.

“At this moment, you are all aware of the appointment of Major General Farou as the new Chief of Army Staff,” he stated.

“I’d like to use this platform to refute such false rumors.

“Senior officials who wish to retire can do so solely on a voluntary basis.

At this time, the Military High Command has not approved any retirements.”
