Holdback, 21, was found unresponsive in the middle of Barrpowell Street in Welland about 1.30am on Wednesday.
Witnesses attempted to help the 21-year-old, but he died at the scene.
Police believe Holdback had met with two occupants of a BMW sedan in Musgrave Street, before the alleged incident unfolded.
He spoke to those inside the car before someone got out and allegedly chased him onto Barrpowell Street where, despite his efforts to skate away, he was allegedly stabbed.
The driver of the vehicle drove the BMW into Barrpowell Street and collected the person who allegedly stabbed the 21-year-old before leaving the scene.
Detectives believe the two suspects then travelled in the BMW north on South Road from Welland, then east along the Port River Expressway, along the full length of Salisbury Highway and into John Rice Avenue.
A 27-year-old man was arrested at his home in the northern suburbs by police on Saturday night.
He has since been charged with murder and refused bail. He will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
A BMW has also been seized from the home.
Police have interviewed the owner of the BMW, who they believe is suspected of murder.
“That person’s role before, during and after the murder is now the subject of an intense and ongoing investigation by detectives who are continuing to compile evidence regarding that person’s involvement,” police said.
