The 20-year-old university student has engaged representation from leading barrister Sue Chrysanthou from 153 Phillip Barristers and solicitor Patrick George from Giles George in his case.
Seven has been notified of the action and now has 28 days to respond.
“We have issued the Concerns Notice for Ben Cohen against Seven and we await their response,” George said.
Seven has declined to comment on the matter.
Sunrise reporters, including presenter Matt Shirvington, then also named Cohen as the man responsible live on air.
