Queensland Police hold grave concerns over Crime Stoppers partnership with pornography distributor
Crime Stoppers International has partnered with Aylo, which runs multiple adult entertainment websites.
The company, which owns Pornhub ,was fined $US1.8 million ($2.76 million) in December for profiting from sex trafficking, according to CNN.
Crime Stoppers International said it was an “unconventional” relationship but they planned to work together to reduce online harm.
Queensland Police told 9News it did not endorse the international partnership and had concerns it did not align with its core values.
Police said they had “requested advice around the partnership and any involvement in current activities with Crime Stoppers Queensland” before taking action.
Crime Stoppers Queensland told 9News it did not report to or receive any money from the international body.
A spokesperson confirmed it would not run any of its international campaigns or programs.
The Ayo deal led South Australia Police to end its partnership with Crime Stoppers.
The organisation in Queensland has led to 590 arrests and nearly 2500 charges in its 35 years of operation.
Last year it received 58,000 anonymous tip-offs.
It is still in operation in Queensland amid the controversy.
Aylo was last year acquired by Ethical Capital Partners, which vowed to clean up the websites.
